LABASAD collaborates with the Zurich Marató Barcelona for the design of the 2024 T-shirt
A LABASAD student wins the Zurich Marató Barcelona design competition with his t-shirt design after obtaining the most votes among the finalists.
The Zurich Marathon Barcelona is one of the most important sporting events in the city of Barcelona and one of the most popular marathons in Europe. It is held every year and attracts runners from all over the world. With a route of 42 kilometres, runners cross the entire city, passing by the most emblematic and iconic buildings, making it a spectacular event.
In this 2024 edition, Zurich Marathon Barcelona contacted LABASAD to collaborate in the design of the T-shirt. After receiving many proposals, the organisation of the Zurich Marathon selected 3 finalists, Esteban Plazibat, student of the Máster Online en Ilustración Editorial y Publicitaria, Alejandra Rodríguez, student of the Máster Online en Diseño Gráfico y Entornos Digitales and Alex Orlich, student of the Máster Online en Diseño Gráfico Avanzado.
The three finalist designs were shared on the Zurich Maraton de Barcelona’s social media so that the public could choose and vote for their favourite. After a few days, once the voting was over, and with more than ten thousand votes, the design selected from the three candidates, with 36.4% of the votes, was that of Esteban Plazibat, an Argentinian illustrator based in Barcelona. The news was reported in leading newspapers such as La Vanguardia and El Mundo Deportivo.
‘What had the greatest impact on me was being there on the day of the marathon and seeing the thousands of people wearing my design’
Esteban tells us that his illustration was inspired by the Barcelona 1992 Olympic Games and the USA in the 90s, to give it a geometric style. Another inspiration for Esteban was Barcelona’s iconic architecture. To give movement to his design, our student included the figures of two characters running, crossing the city. The 2024 T-shirt plays an important role, since for the marathon runners, the T-shirt is kept as a souvenir of their participation, which they accumulate and collect year after year.
After his participation in the competition, Esteban is left with a sense of security to face other challenges.
‘The LABASAD Master’s degree helped me a lot and has given me the necessary tools to develop this project. Getting this recognition has encouraged me, it has motivated me to continue creating and has given me more confidence to be able to work on future projects’.
