LABASAD shines at the Pentawards 2025: talent, creativity, and design with purpose

The Pentawards, one of the most prestigious international awards in packaging design, have once again recognised LABASAD’s creative talent. In the 2025 edition, three projects connected to our school were awarded for their innovation, creativity, and sustainable vision.
Andrea Muñoz, student of LABASAD’s Máster Online en Diseño Estratégico de Packaging (taught in Spanish), has received a Bronze Award in the Student Concepts – Body, Health & Beauty category for her project VULCAN: Volcano Science.
The project takes inspiration from the eruption of the Tajogaite volcano (La Palma, Spain, 2021) — a natural event that transformed the island and symbolises the balance between destruction and creation.
VULCAN was born to show how adversity can be turned into opportunity, creating a personal care brand with local, sustainable ingredients that honour the island’s volcanic identity. The packaging, designed under the principles of eco-design and inspired by volcanic geometry, offers a timeless and genderless visual identity that celebrates regeneration — social, environmental, and aesthetic.
“VULCAN is a statement of intent. We are duality turned into beauty. We are regeneration.”

José Aceves, also a student of LABASAD’s Máster Online en Diseño Estratégico de Packaging (in Spanish), was recognised with a Certificate at Pentawards 2025 for his project Sōl Skin, nominated in the Student Concepts – Body, Health & Beauty category.
Travelling from Mexico, José attended the awards ceremony in person, where he met leading professionals from the packaging world and was joined by the programme’s Co-directors Beatriz Suárez and Miguel Ángel del Baño, from the studio Maba, who also received multiple awards.
Sōl Skin proposes a hyper-personalised skincare brand that merges science, technology, and generative art. Each product is formulated according to the user’s individual skin profile and comes with a unique, AI-generated label reflecting their skin’s characteristics. With a sustainable subscription model and refillable, recyclable packaging, the project bridges science and emotion, redefining the relationship between design, innovation, and self-care.

Maba Studio, led by Beatriz Suárez and Miguel Ángel del Baño, won both a Gold and a Silver Award for their project UPM Raflatac Swatchbook, as well as an additional Silver Award for Weirdo, a bold and unconventional packaging design for Rubio Snacks.
The UPM Raflatac Swatchbook project — created with the participation of Marco Arroyo, a LABASAD alumnus — transforms a materials catalogue into a tactile and visual experience inspired by the Finnish landscape. It turns a technical tool into a meaningful brand object that inspires designers and reflects the company’s essence.
Weirdo, meanwhile, stands out for its playful visual universe and striking 3D characters designed for a Gen Z audience. Bold, colourful, and unfiltered, it celebrates excess and creativity in equal measure, showing Maba’s versatility and contemporary design vision.

These awards reaffirm LABASAD’s presence on the international design stage, showcasing the excellence of our programmes, the expertise of our teaching professionals, and the global projection of our students.
✨ At LABASAD, we don’t just teach design — we train creative professionals who transform their world through innovation, sustainability, and emotion.
