Looking Back on Our 2025 at LABASAD
If one thing has defined 2025 at LABASAD – Barcelona School of Arts & Design, it has been the constant feeling of living through a truly special year. An academic year shaped by creative initiatives, a strong commitment to Artificial Intelligence, recognition in national and international competitions, and, above all, a community that has continued to grow.
Throughout 2025, LABASAD has taken part in nine competitions and festivals, with outstanding involvement from students, alumni and faculty. Among them:
- LAUS Student Awards (12 awarded projects, including 2 Silver and 2 Bronze awards — a record for the school)
- Pentawards
- ADCE Awards (4 finalists)
- Premis Junceda
- Brut
- Selekted Bilbao
- Bill Festival
- NXT – OFFF Festival
- El Proyector and El Gran Proyector (Foto Colectania)
- Les Llums de Nadal il·luminen el comerç
- APIM Awards
- Acció Museu Thyssen
Beyond the awards, the most valuable part has been seeing students present their projects, travel, share stages, defend ideas and live experiences that are an essential part of real learning.
This has undoubtedly been the year of AI at LABASAD.
During 2025:
- Two new Master’s programmes focused exclusively on Artificial Intelligence were launched.
- An AI specialisation module was introduced in a large number of Online Master’s programmes, both in Spanish and English.
- Some programmes have integrated AI transversally throughout their entire curriculum, making it part of the degree itself.
- Numerous AI masterclasses and workshops were organised, applied to design, photography, motion, illustration, product design and creative processes.
All of this from a clear perspective: AI as a creative tool, not as a substitute for human thinking.
In 2025, LABASAD strengthened its presence in key spaces within the creative sector as an Educational Sponsor and Partner, highlighting collaborations such as:
- OFFF Barcelona
- Upscale Conf
We also celebrated the 3rd edition of LABASAD FEST!, an essential meeting point where students, faculty and the team come together face to face to share talks, workshops and creativity without filters. In 2026, we’ll be back. And yes, we’re already counting the days until we meet again.
This year was also full of in-person experiences that strengthened our community:
- London Trip, a creative and cultural immersion
- Visit and Masterclass at Fuego
- Talk with Alejandro Masferrer at Casa Triggers
Added to this are countless visits to studios, offices and creative spaces, bringing professional reality closer to students’ everyday learning.
- 1,200+ students throughout the year
- Students connected from more than 100 of countries
- New faculty members across all areas
- New additions to the internal team: Lara, Leah, Alejandra, Víctor and Alex
Growth that is not only quantitative, but also qualitative.
One thing that is repeatedly mentioned when we accompany students to award ceremonies, presentations or project defences is their gratitude for the support they’ve received from day one. From academic coordination, faculty and admissions to communication, marketing and administration, LABASAD is a collective effort.
We close the year with pride, the good kind of tiredness, and plenty of excitement for what’s to come. 2025 has been an intense year, full of learning. And if there’s one thing we’re certain of, it’s that creativity is built better when it’s built together.
Thank you to everyone who is part of LABASAD.
